This is the moment a flock of 1,200 ducks paraded through a wine estate on their daily commute to the vineyards, where they help protect the grapevines by feeding on pests.<br /><br />Mark Cromhout, 57, was at the Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate in Cape Town, South Africa, on April 29, 2025, when he witnessed the parade of Indian runner ducks.<br /><br />The flock makes its way through the estate from the pond to the vineyard at 9 a.m. every day and returns at noon.<br /><br />The ducks are used as a natural form of pest control—clearing the vineyards of snails and insects as they enjoy a delicious breakfast.<br /><br />This eco-friendly method reduces the need for harmful chemical pesticides.
