Tenby’s 80th anniversary VE Day celebrations yesterday evening, culminated in a beacon lighting ceremony on Castle Hill, proceeded by a parade through the Walled Town.<br />The beacon lighting took place under the Prince Albert memorial at 9.30 pm, with the Proclamation being read, <br />and pipes and community singing of ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’.<br />The parade to the beacon started at 9 pm, forming up outside St Mary’s Church, before make its way through the town centre up to Castle Hill. <br />Piper Graham Phillips led the way, before the community singing of ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’.<br />At 9.25 pm, The Town Crier Erin Morgan read the VE Day Tribute at Castle Hill, before local War Veteran Duncan Hilling lit the beacon to form part of a national chain to be followed by the singing of the National Anthems.<br />Throughout Thursday, May 8, the seaside town paid its respects to commemorate the historic 80th anniversary.<br />Proceedings started at 9 am, with the Town Crier reading the VE Day Proclamation on the town walls turret, followed by the raising of the VE Day flag.<br />The wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial on South Parade then took place at 11 am.<br />Continuing the programme of events for the day, organised by the Town Council, alongside the local branch of the Royal British Legion - at 6.30 pm, the Peal of Bells from St Mary’s Church took place to coincide with a national peal.<br />©Pics: Gareth Davies Photography<br />©Vid: Lucy Crockford [Picture This: Tenby Observer Photography Club]<br />
