“The Golf Specialist” is a 1930 American pre-Code comedy short film directed by Monte Brice, starring W.C. Fields. The film follows J. Effingham Bellweather, a con artist staying at a Florida hotel, who gets caught up in a series of slapstick misadventures. When he offers to teach the house detective’s wife how to play golf, his lesson is constantly interrupted by distractions—including a squeaky-shoed caddy, flying papers, and even a pie mishap. Just as he demonstrates the importance of keeping the wrists close together, the police arrive to arrest him for a list of absurd crimes. The film was Fields’ first talkie and features his signature dry humor and comedic timing.

Credits:
Director: Monte Brice
Producer: Lou Brock
Starring: W.C.
