Former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou has begun his fourth visit to China since leaving office, leading a group of Taiwanese students to Fujian province. He said the trip is to promote cultural and industrial understanding. The group will take part in the Beijing-organized Straits Forum. At the airport, Ma faced protests from Taiwan independence supporters. Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council expressed regret over Ma’s attendance at the forum, calling it inconsistent with his previous public stance.
