For unknown reasons, virtually every Y chromosome carrier on the planet dies, except for Yorick's boyfriend and his tame capuchin. Society descends into chaos, with the surviving females trying to adjust to existence in the new world. Yorick, on the other hand, goes to visit his senator mother in Washington, D.C., and then sets out to find his girlfriend Beth, who was in Australia when the disaster began.
