San Francisco will expand access to generative AI for 30,000 city workers using Microsoft 365 Copilot, according to CNBC. The rollout follows a six-month pilot involving 2,000 staff, which demonstrated productivity gains of up to five hours per week. Workers across departments will utilize GPT-4-powered tools for tasks such as data analysis, report drafting, and processing 311 service requests, as well as language translation. The AI system is included under the city’s existing Microsoft license. Mayor Daniel Lurie said San Francisco aims to be “a beacon” for municipal AI adoption worldwide.
