How? Chinese mosquito drone is reshaping modern warfare

The National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) of China has developed a mosquito-like drone with flapping wings, a thin body, and hair-like legs, making it nearly undetectable by radar or sight. Another unique feature is its compact size, which makes it relatively easy to hide or conceal.

The drone is equipped with advanced sensors and power systems, and its bionic design ensures quiet flight. Unlike larger micro-drones, such as Norway’s Black Hornet (which is controlled via a portable device), this drone mimics a real insect more closely.

"Here in my hand is a mosquito-like robot. Miniature bionic robots like this one are especially suited for information gathering, reconnaissance, and special missions on the battlefield," said Liang Hexiang, a student at NUDT, in an interview with CCTV.

The drone also has three hair-thin 'legs' that could be used for perching or landing. While its specific capabilities remain undisclosed, it is likely to have a significant impact on global defense strategies. Beyond military applications, it could also be used for search and rescue operations or surveillance missions.
