EXPLORING A FORGOTTEN MI6 TUNNEL IN LONDON
WITH PIX AND VID
BY Shuk Yee Tsang
A maze of Cold War-era tunnels, packed with decaying equipment and relics from a once-secret operation, sits hidden in London, UK.
The footage was captured by Tokyo Scott, 21-year-old urban explorer from Sheffield, UK who explored and shot her experience under the streets of England's capital.
Tokyo says the tunnels were part of a classified MI6 communications bunker system built during the height of the Cold War.
Apparently, it was constructed to house the Special Operations Executive an offshoot of MI6, the site was later expanded to serve as a secure government telephone exchange.
The tunnel system remained hidden under the Official Secrets Act for nearly 70 years.
Inside, Tokyo found dust-covered switchboards, steel doors, faded signage, and even a canteen with a kitchen mixer that, surprisingly, still worked.
Tokyo shared “The moment you step inside, you feel the weight of the past. It's cold, silent, and untouched as if the last person just walked out and locked the door behind them.
“I’ve been fascinated by Cold War bunkers since I was a kid, and this place was like discovering a real-life time capsule.
“People don’t realise what’s hidden just below their feet, it’s incredible how much of it has been erased from public memory.
“The canteen was probably my favourite room. It was like time had stood still. And the fact the mixer still worked? That blew my mind.
“We found it by digging through old declassified documents and Cold War maps, it wasn’t exactly on Google Maps.”
ENDS
