PELICANS FISHING WITH STUNNING REFLECTIONS AND CLOSE-UPS ON THE WATER
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
A group of majestic Dalmatian pelicans were captured fishing in glassy lake waters, their wings slicing the surface as reflections danced beneath them.
The breathtaking footage and photos were taken by Sean Weekly, a professional wildlife photographer from Portishead, Bristol.
One striking clip shows a pelican perched atop a boat roof, peering down toward the water and directly at the camera an intimate and playful moment between bird and lens in Greece.
Sean has spent over a decade documenting the lives of these once-endangered birds, often travelling to Northern Greece where they thrive.
His artistic compositions, including dramatic backlit shots and low-angle portraits, showcase both the beauty and behavior of these charismatic creatures.
Sean said: "I’ve dedicated 10 years photographing this stunning bird and I owe this species so much for the enjoyment it has given me during that time.
" Dedicated to raising awareness and promoting the conservation of the Dalmatian pelican, a species that was once near extinction but has seen a significant recovery in the wild.
"What an awesome morning it was with picture perfect backgrounds.
"This was taken at sunset during a small opening in the clouds.
"Two male pelicans having a very brief altercation. A tough shot to achieve. luckily this one paid off.
"Sometimes pushing the boundaries of composition and your own skills can be risky... but that is how beautiful shots are created shoot, experiment, review, assess, learn, and then
reshoot again."
Online fans have expressed their love for Sean photos:
"The most amazing creatures and talented photographer!!!
"Fantastic images, Sean. Great work!
"Amazing!!!! I LOVE photographing pelicans; they are one of my favourite subjects!
"Brave to put the camera so low to the water... not so much risk to gear, but the courage to try a different composition and perspective."
END
