First Nations communities and leaders from around the country have gathered in Arnhem land in the Northern Territory for the 25th annual Garma festival. This year many are focused on finding a way forward after the rejected 2023 voice referendum and slow progress in other key policy areas. Productivity commissioner Selwyn Button has called on the Commonwealth government to do more to address indigenous disadvantage following what's been described as another update to "dismally failing" closing the gap data.
