Musk questioned Apple for excluding X and Grok from its “Must Have” section despite their high rankings, suggesting the company may be “playing politics.” Apple, which faces separate DOJ antitrust litigation, did not respond to requests for comment. Before threatening Apple with legal action, Musk celebrated Grok surpassing Google to become the fifth most popular free app on the App Store. xAI declined to comment to CNBC on a potential lawsuit. CNBC confirmed ChatGPT ranked No. 1 in the U.S. iOS store and was the only AI chatbot in Apple’s “Must-Have Apps” section, with a featured link to download ChatGPT-5.
