National Guard troops arrive for duty in Washington, D.C.<br /><br />Members of the National Guard arrived at the DC Armory on Tuesday, August 12, a day after US President Donald Trump announced he was deploying 800 National Guard troops to Washington and temporarily taking over the city's police department.<br /><br />The president cast his actions as necessary to "rescue" Washington from a purported wave of lawlessness.
