A Chinese national was sentenced to eight years in prison for conspiring to smuggle firearms, ammunition, and U.S. technology to North Korea, according to CNBC. Shenghua Wen, 42, pleaded guilty in June to violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and acting as an illegal agent of a foreign government. Prosecutors said Wen concealed contraband in shipping containers labeled as consumer goods and admitted that North Korean officials wired him about $2 million for weapons and sensitive devices. Federal agents seized firearms, surveillance countermeasure tools, and 50,000 rounds of ammunition tied to his operation. Wen is a Chinese citizen who entered the U.S. in 2012. He has lived illegally in the country since his student visa expired in December 2013, the Department of Justice said.
