"It felt really good: very comfortable and very safe" - The cockpit is finished This certainly classifies as light-weight. The first tangible component of the Solar Impulse prototype, currently being constructed in Dübendorf, weighs just 10kg. The cockpit was delivered last week and put through its first tests. In so doing the Solar Impule team wanted to find out whether the structure of the cockpit really is robust enough to withstand the airdrag that the airplane will encounter at a maximum flying speed of 100 km/h. So how did they go about doing that? Take a look for yourself. André Borschberg's comment during the tests was: "I had the impression to roll on the runway before the take-off, like in the real airplane."
