Elon Musk's Legal Team Fights To Block OpenAI's Access To Meta's Bid Documents

2025-08-27 20 Dailymotion

Elon Musk’s legal team has filed a motion to block OpenAI from obtaining documents tied to a previous $97.4 billion takeover bid, according to court filings. The request follows OpenAI’s attempt to compel Meta Platforms to provide communications related to the bid. Meta has pushed back, arguing OpenAI should seek documents directly from Musk and his AI startup, xAI. Musk’s lawyers maintain OpenAI already has relevant materials and accused the company of pursuing “expansive discovery” beyond the scope of the trial. OpenAI countered that it seeks only targeted records and may need depositions of Musk, xAI representatives, and other co-bidders if key discussions were oral. The dispute stems from Musk’s 2023 lawsuit against OpenAI over its transition to a for-profit model, followed by OpenAI’s countersuit earlier this year. A jury trial is set for spring 2026.
