Chinese semiconductor firm Cambricon reported record first-half earnings as local rivals to Nvidia gain momentum under Beijing’s push for self-sufficiency in chipmaking, according to CNBC. Revenue jumped more than 4,000% year-on-year to $402.7 million, and shares have more than doubled this year, lifting the company’s market capitalization to roughly $80 billion. Cambricon’s growth comes as China curbs Nvidia chip purchases and U.S. export controls tighten. Nvidia remains dominant with $44 billion in quarterly revenue, but Cambricon is ramping up software and next-generation hardware efforts.
