Alphabet’s Waymo unit said Thursday it will begin test-driving robotaxis at San Jose Mineta International Airport this fall, according to CNBC. The autonomous car company has been cleared to start offering driverless rides from the airport’s Ground Transportation Centers in Terminals A and B, with plans to roll out paid rides later this year. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan called the service a safe option ahead of the city hosting major sporting events in 2026. Once operational, San Jose will be Waymo’s second international airport service after Phoenix Sky Harbor, which became its most popular destination in the Phoenix metro area. Waymo has continued expanding across the U.S., with operations in Austin, Atlanta, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. It recently added 27 square miles of coverage in the Bay Area.
