Cases of syphilis double in the last decade with alarms for pregnant women and First Nations people

A snapshot of sexually transmitted infections in the community shows some alarming results. National surveillance data from the Kirby Institute show number of syphilis and gonorrhoea cases have doubled in the past decade. While HIV rates have declined, the report also highlights significant gaps in sexual health testing. The report's lead author, Dr Skye McGregor, says the rise in syphilis is particularly concerning.
