ART YOU CAN EAT – ARTIST CREATES PORTRAITS USING FOOD
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
From portraits carved into apples to Salvador Dali’s face recreated in ketchup, an artist is turning everyday foods into extraordinary works of art.
Kanat Nurtazin, 34, from Astana, Kazakhstan, has gained worldwide attention for his food art, including Home Alone characters made in Nutella, Beyoncé painted in coffee, and even a portrait sculpted from Oreos.
He has also created striking images on cheese, as well as portraits formed from baking powder.
Kanat explained that each piece begins with an idea and a sketch before he carefully carves or shapes the materials by hand, a process that can take hours or even days.
He said: “It’s my way of sharing stories, emotions, and little pieces of myself with the world. I want people to see that even the most ordinary things can be transformed into something meaningful.
“I experiment with unusual materials and mix different techniques to show that art has no limits. For me, it’s not just about the final result but about the process itself I really enjoy being fully involved in every stage of creation.
“If my work can inspire people to look differently at ordinary things and believe in their own ability to learn, then I feel I’ve achieved something.”
END
