New South Wales Deputy Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon will replace outgoing Commissioner Karen Webb. The veteran officer has served thirty-eight years with the police force. He's been head of the crime command and led the state's recovery efforts after devastating floods in 2022. He will step into the role next month after Commissioner Webb's term ends in a week. Reports show Mr Lanyon was aggressive towards a paramedic after an alcohol-fuelled police event in 2021. Mr Lanyon concedes he's previously made mistakes and thanks his predecessor.
