STAR TRAILS TIMELAPSE RESEMBLES VAN GOGH’S STARRY NIGHT<br />WITH PIX AND VID<br />By Shuk Yee Tsang<br />A breathtaking time-lapse has captured sweeping star trails across the sky, resembling Vincent van Gogh’s iconic Starry Night painting.<br />Roger de la Harpe and his wife and Pat de la Harpe, professional photographers and writers from Hermanus in the Western Cape, South Africa filmed the scene while visiting the Karoo National Park, South Africa an area celebrated for its clear skies.<br />The couple set up a camera facing due south and left it running overnight to record the movement of the stars, illustrating the earth’s rotation. <br />After three nights of trial and error, they finally achieved a flawless sequence using a GoPro 13 camera.<br />The timelapse transforms the dark Karoo sky into swirling ribbons of light, evoking the brushstrokes of van Gogh’s masterpiece. <br />Viewers have been stunned by the striking resemblance and mesmerised by the cosmic display.<br />The project also highlights the beauty of South Africa’s remote night skies, offering a rare glimpse into the vastness of the universe.<br />Roger de la Harpe said: “We set up the camera facing due south and let it run all night, creating the movement of the stars which illustrates the rotation of the earth.<br />“I just wanted to show the beauty of the Karoo sky.<br />“The first night, the camera battery didn’t last long, the second night clouds blew in, and only on the third night did everything work perfectly.<br />“People have been amazed at the beauty of the star trails.”<br />END
