Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators filled the streets of Cape Town on Saturday, marching towards Parliament to demand an end to what they described as 'genocide' in Gaza.<br /><br />Footage shows protesters carrying Palestinian flags and placards with slogans including 'If you’re silent, you're complicit, stop the genocide' and 'Don't feel bad, do something.'<br /><br />"You cannot be watching a live stream genocide, with children being massacred, bombed to pieces, babies being torn from the wombs of their mothers, not to have a feeling," a protester said.<br /><br />"I am saying globally, to our country in South Africa as well, pool together your military and stop the genocide that's happening in Gaza," she added.<br /><br />Another marcher stressed the importance of global solidarity, saying: "We can't be on the front lines to assist the people of Palestine, but at least we can raise our voices and show our support in these marches."<br /><br />The demonstration, organised by the Al-Quds Foundation, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, the Muslim Judicial Council, and others, reportedly culminated in the handing over of a memorandum of demands to a government representative.<br /><br />South Africa has played a prominent role in international legal efforts, filing a case at the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of violating the Genocide Convention.
