In the United States, a crowd of protesters was dispersed Friday by law enforcement outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, west of Chicago. At least five people were arrested for aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. This federal presence coincides with Operation Midway Blitz, a law enforcement campaign launched in September that has resulted in more than 800 arrests in the Chicago region, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security. The deployment of federal control adds to the intensification of migrant detention measures in Chicago, considered a “sanctuary city” for its policies of inclusion of undocumented immigrants.

#teleSUREnglish #ChicagoProtests #ICEFacility #OperationMidwayBlitz #SanctuaryCity #MigrantRightsUSA
