GRIZZLY BEAR FAMILY ENJOY DAY BY THE WATER
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
A grizzly bear family was captured enjoying a day by the water, fishing and foraging for salmon.
The incredible footage was filmed by wildlife photographers Roger and Pat de la Harpe from Hermanus, South Africa, during their visit to Lake Clark National Park, Alaska.
The couple spent several days documenting the bears’ behaviour, watching in awe as the family splashed through icy streams and roamed the land.
The De la Harpes had long dreamed of photographing grizzlies in their natural habitat and finally seized the opportunity.
The bears, who frequent the mouth of Silver Salmon Creek to feed, was also seen what appears to be admiring their surroundings.
Roger said: “We’d have to pinch ourselves often.
"I couldn’t believe where we were and what we were doing.
"We travelled to Alaska to photograph bears. It’s something we had wanted to do for a long time, so when the opportunity arose, we grabbed it.
"It was freezing cold with the occasional rain squall, so keeping the cameras (and ourselves) dry was quite a challenge.
“People have been amazed at just how big these animals are."
END
