Firefighters battle blaze in South Korea's Gangwon province<br /><br />A wildfire in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, was fully contained at around 10:20 a.m. local time (0120 GMT) on Sunday, South Korean authorities said, after overnight evacuations in the country’s northeast.<br /><br />The blaze broke out at around 6:10 p.m. local time (0910 GMT) on Saturday, prompting South Korea to issue a Level 1 forest fire response alert early Sunday and evacuate hundreds of residents.<br />Authorities deployed 326 personnel overnight to battle the flames, and at daybreak mobilized 26 helicopters to help extinguish the fire. <br /><br />Footage from the Korea Forest Service showed flames on a mountainside as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.<br /><br />Officials said the fire did not spread to nearby residential areas and burned about 22.5 hectares.
