ELEPHANT INTERRUPTS LUNCH AT SAFARI CAMP JUST TO SNACK ON A DOORMAT
WITH VID
By Mike Jones
Check out this unbelievable moment an elephant casually walks into a safari lunch not for the food on the table, but for something far more unexpected.
Alexander Ley, a German traveller based in Berlin, filmed the scene in early October 2025 at Kaingo Camp in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.
He and other guests were enjoying lunch when an elephant bull strolled straight toward their setup with total confidence. Everyone froze, thinking he might go for the fruit or bread.
Instead, he lifted the doormat made from natural banana leaves and began eating it happily. The camp later joked that the local doormat maker is still confused as to why they keep ordering so many replacements.
Alexander said: “We were fascinated, frozen, and excited. When he picked up the doormat and started eating it, we all burst out laughing. He even closed his eyes while chewing, he genuinely enjoyed it.”
One user commented: ‘He looks SO pleased with himself!’
A second added: ‘It’s breathtakingly close. It’s so cute that it can chew.’
ENDS
