Duterte stays at The Hague prison after ICC denies plea for release<br /><br />Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Nov. 28, 2025 denies appeal by former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte, 80, to be released provisionally while awaiting a decision on whether the case against him will proceed. <br /><br />Duterte, in office from 2016 to 2022, was arrested and taken to The Hague in March on a warrant linking him to murders committed during his war on drugs, in which thousands of alleged narcotics peddlers and users were killed. <br /><br />Duterte is currently being detained at the ICC Detention Centre, which is located within a Dutch prison complex in Scheveningen, on the outskirts of The Hague. <br /><br />The Scheveningen prison facility is where many former leaders prosecuted by international courts or U tribunals spent years during legal proceedings. <br /><br />Duterte and his lawyers maintain his arrest was unlawful.
