In China, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, John Lee, attended a memorial service Saturday to pay tribute to the victims of a residential building fire in Tai Po district. At the same time, the national flag of China and the regional flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region were lowered to half-mast at all government buildings to show condolences. The half-mast flag flying will remain until Monday, during a three-day mourning period in which principal government officials will call off all non-essential public events. Meanwhile, recreational and celebratory activities will be either canceled or postponed depending on specific circumstances.

#teleSUREnglish #China #HongKong #TaiPo #Memorial #Solidarity
