Meet MOM - The ingenious AI device that orders dinner depending on how loud your stomach growls

In a quirky blend of biology and technology, a young Indian engineer has created a wearable AI-powered device that listens to his stomach and automatically orders food online when it growls with hunger.

Engineer Sohan M Rai, a startup founder and content creator from Mangaluru in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka, built the 'Meal Ordering Module' (MOM) as a DIY experiment. The device clips onto his belt and uses a stethoscope borrowed from his sister to capture internal stomach sounds. A microphone attached to the stethoscope's diaphragm records the audio, which is then fed into a small computer chip for analysis.

The sounds are then processed using AI, which distinguishes between a genuine hunger pang and other sounds, such as gas. If it confirms hunger, the system automatically triggers an order through a food delivery app, selecting items based on Rai's previous preferences.

Footage captures Rai fine-tuning the MOM in his workshop.

"My team and I, when we work on something, we don't have a track of food or anything... One day, we were like, s**t, we didn't even have food once today. And then we were like what if we had a device that can know if we're hungry and order food automatically?" Rai explained.

"I don't look at any scalable thing out of this - it's a fun project, it can be used, but I don't think someone would use it every day," Rai added.

He encouraged aspiring inventors, noting, "For anyone who wants to build something or anyone who feels like they want to learn but they're like ok, I need this money for it or this idea...you just keep on executing. Even if it's the smallest idea that comes to you, just go on and execute it."

The gadget, featured in Rai's 'Inventions You Will Never Think Of' series, quickly went viral, attracting mixed reactions online, ranging from amusement to scepticism. Many social media users expressed curiosity, while some dismissed it as a useless invention.

Rai is well-known for his tech-driven Instagram page 'Zikiguy,' where he regularly shares innovation and gadget-related content.

An alumnus of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, he has completed various internships at tech firms, launched his startup, and cultivated a strong social media presence.

Earlier in 2023, he gained viral fame for delivering food as a Zomato deliveryman using a homemade drone.

Follow us on:
WhatsApp cutt.ly/WhatsAppCFM
https://twitter.com/capitalfmkenya/
https://www.facebook.com/capitalfmkenya
https://www.instagram.com/capitalfmkenya

Subscribe to Capital FM News for More: https://goo.gl/um4AGk

98.4 Capital FM
93.0 Western Kenya
98.5 Nakuru and Nyeri
104.5 Malindi
102.7 Garissa
103.9 Meru
106.5 Kitui
104.9 Voi

#CapitalFmKenya
