Nobel Prize laureates in medicine hope their work sheds light on autoimmune diseases<br /><br />Nobel Prize laureates in medicine Mary Brunkow and Fred Ramsell from the United States, and Shimon Sakaguchi from Japan on Saturday said they hope their work helps to advance treatments for autoimmune disease and cancer. They won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for work shedding light on how the immune system spares healthy cells. Shimon Sakaguchi, who discovered a class of immune cells and regulatory T cells, which protect the body from autoimmune diseases, said he hopes the breakthrough will help the world “recognize the importance” of medical research.
