KINGFISHER DAD SHOWS OFF PRIZED CATCH<br />WITH PIX AND VID<br />By Shuk Yee Tsang<br />A male kingfisher was captured in a stunning display as they hunted for fish. <br />Peter Haygarth, 62, a photographer from County Durham, UK, filmed the footage at a hide in his hometown. <br />The stream hide is a prime spot for observing kingfishers. <br />Peter spent the morning tracking the bird’s behaviour and discovered its favourite perch for hunting. <br />He filmed the kingfisher striking fish and carefully positioning them head-first in its beak before flying back to the nest.<br />Peter said: “Another great morning spent in Nigel Miller's woodland hide near Durham. <br />“After watching the behaviour of the fishing kingfisher for a while, I realised this was its favourite stop next to the stream to stun the fish. <br />"I trained my camera on this point with fingers crossed.<br />“As predicted, the male kingfisher landed on the log, struck the fish, and turned it in its mouth so the head was sticking out.<br /> "Allowing him to fly back to the nest to feed his hungry chicks."<br />ENDS
