The Asylum Choir — Look Inside 1968 (USA, Psychedelic Rock)

The studio project “The Asylum Choir” (the name can be translated as “Choir of the Insane Asylum”) was composed of two session musicians then little known to the general rock audience: guitarist and pianist Leon Russell and Texan guitarist Marc Benno. Their first album, “Look Inside,” (“the great stupid psychedelic album,” as it’s sometimes described), forgotten and lost in time, was digitally remastered in 2007 and became a great nostalgic gift for old hippies, a surprise for fans of Leon Russell, and a treasure trove for those interested in 70s music. Recorded at Leon Russell’s home studio in Los Angeles, it’s musically reminiscent of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper,” and its sarcasm and ironic lyrics echo those of Frank Zappa. The rock press was positive about this project and their first opus, but it sold poorly. Material for a second album was also prepared, but it wasn't released until 1971 under the title "Asylum Choir II," when the duo no longer existed, and the perpetually sullen guitarist and pianist Leon Russell unexpectedly became a superstar of the 70s...

Tracks:

01.
