宇宙人である鬼族が、地球侵略を仕掛ける。鬼族は圧倒的な技術力と軍事力を保有しており、武力で容易に地球を手に入れるのでは簡単過ぎて面白くない。そこで、鬼族代表と地球代表とが一騎討ちで戦い、地球代表が勝った場合、おとなしく帰り、地球代表が敗れた場合、地球を占領すると宣言した。その一騎討ちは、鬼族の伝統に従い『鬼ごっこ』で行われ、期限内に地球代表が鬼族代表の角を掴むと地球の勝ち、鬼族代表が逃げ切ると鬼族の勝ちというものである。地球の命運を賭けた「鬼ごっこ」の地球代表に選ばれてしまった高校生の諸星あたるは、当初やる気がなかったものの、恋人で幼なじみである三宅しのぶの色恋仕掛け（勝ったら、結婚してあげる）により、彼女と結ばれたいがために鬼族代表のラムを追いかけ始める。あたるがラムを追いかけつつ発した「勝って結婚じゃぁ〜」の一言は、あたるが恋人で幼なじみのしのぶを想っての発言であったが、ラムは自分に求婚しているのだと勘違いし、それを受け入れてしまう。そのため、鬼ごっこには勝利、地球は侵略を免れるが、ラムは諸星家に住み着いてしまう。こうして、恋多き男・あたると宇宙から来た押しかけ女房・ラムの果てしなき鬼ごっこが始まる。そして、友引町はさまざまな災いや奇妙な出来事に巻き込まれていく。 <br /><br />(For Non-Japanese Viewers) <br />When you watch the video, please click the Gear icon "⚙ "in the top-right corner of the screen to access the subtitle options, then select your language if available. <br /><br />The demon race, an alien species, launches an invasion of Earth. Possessing overwhelming technological and military superiority, they deem conquering Earth by force too easy and uninteresting. Therefore, the Oni Clan representative and an Earth representative would face off in a duel. If the Earth representative won, the Oni Clan would quietly return home. If the Earth representative lost, the Oni Clan would occupy Earth. This duel, following Oni Clan tradition, would be played as ‘Tag’. If the Earth representative grabbed the Oni Clan representative's horns within the time limit, Earth would win. If the Oni Clan representative managed to escape uncaught, the Oni Clan would win. High school student Ataru Moroboshi, chosen as Earth's representative in this game of tag that decided Earth's fate, initially had no motivation. However, driven by his girlfriend and childhood friend Shinobu Miyake's romantic bribe (“If you win, I'll marry you”), he began chasing the Oni tribe representative, Ram, in hopes of being with her. While chasing Ram, Ataru blurts out, “Win and marry me~!” This was meant as a declaration of love for Shinobu, but Ram misunderstands it as a marriage proposal and accepts. Consequently, Earth wins the game and avoids invasion, but Ram ends up moving into the Moroboshi household. And so begins the endless game of tag between Ataru, the love-struck man, and Ram, the space-faring, pushy wife. And Tomobiki Town gets swept up in all sorts of disasters and bizarre events.
