As an authentic SUV model, the Toyota Urban Cruiser is also available with optional all-wheel drive. This system utilizes an additional 48 kW motor on the rear axle,² ensuring stable and safe handling on loose and slippery surfaces, thus providing a comfortable and secure driving experience even under challenging conditions.<br /><br />The system guarantees precise torque distribution between the front and rear axles. If wheel slippage is imminent, the torque is automatically adjusted to improve traction and driving stability.<br /><br />Two operating modes are available for the all-wheel-drive system. In Auto mode, the system automatically adapts to road conditions. In Trail mode, a wheel that loses traction is braked via a locking differential, and the drive torque is transferred to the opposite wheel on the same axle to ensure safer driving.<br /><br />The system also includes hill start assist and hill descent control. Active cornering control brakes the inside wheels to counteract understeer when accelerating through corners and to improve cornering behavior.
