Argentina has formally nominated Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as its candidate for United Nations Secretary-General, ahead of the 2027 leadership transition.<br /><br />Speaking at Argentina’s Foreign Ministry, Grossi called for profound reforms at the UN and criticized the organization’s absence from major global conflicts. He argued the next Secretary-General must take a hands-on approach, including traveling directly to conflict zones.<br /><br />Grossi highlighted his experience managing global crises at the IAEA, including efforts to prevent a nuclear disaster at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant and maintaining dialogue with Iran.
