The Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend the life sentence and grant conditional bail to convicted former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case has sparked outrage and renewed calls for justice.

Standing firm with the survivor is advocate Mehmood Pracha, speaking with defiance and resolve. Known for taking on politically sensitive and high-stakes cases, Pracha has emerged as a relentless voice challenging what he calls a “perversion of law.”

In an interview with Outlook, Pracha, who has previously faced intense scrutiny for his legal activism, sharply condemns the bail order, alleging “systemic collusion” that has stacked the odds against his client.

Pracha lays bare his critique of the justice system, questions the conduct of investigative agencies, and articulates his belief that powerful institutions and political interests are undermining the rule of law.

The case, he says, symbolises the struggle for justice for survivors of sexual violence in India. He says: “What will be the impact of this judgment on society? Every paedophile, every child molester, every child rapist, every gang rapist of children, every murderer of women and children will now feel confident. They will say that if Kuldeep Singh Sengar, after committing all these crimes, can be considered deserving of such extraordinary magnanimity, kindness and mercy from one of the premier High Courts of the country, then no other case should be treated differently.”

Watch the full video to know more.

Video & Text: Fozia Yasin

#UnnaoRapeCase #DelhiHighCourt #KuldeepSinghSengar
