Let's break down what we learned—and what we're overreacting to.<br /><br />ZAYNE PAREKH: A RORSCHACH TEST<br />This tournament is the perfect example of how scouts view Parekh differently:<br />- If you LIKE him: This tournament reinforced everything you love about his game<br />- If you DON'T like him: This tournament confirmed all your concerns<br />My take? Just let him be him. Everything you hear about this kid is how SMART he is.<br /><br />He needs to play at the NHL level to learn and develop. He'll figure it out<br />The "robot apology" comments: I had no problem with what he said, but listening to the apology? It really does sound like something a robot would say.<br /><br />This intro to the NHL has been REALLY hard on him, sounds like a kid who was in his head and taking everything personally.<br /><br />You can't manage every player the same way. Parekh needs development time and patience.<br /><br />GAVIN MCKENNA: ARE PEOPLE OVERREACTING?<br />I think people are absolutely overreacting to McKenna's tournament:<br />I HATE how this has gone for him.<br />He chose to challenge himself and went to the NCAA to push his development.<br /><br />It's a BIG adjustment—he hasn't dominated, and now he's slipping in draft rankings.<br />Would we be having these same conversations if he was putting up 70 points in the WHL again? Probably not. But would that actually be BETTER for his development?<br /><br />I wonder how this affects future top prospects choosing NCAA vs CHL.<br /><br />The bottom line: Both players are incredibly talented, but development paths aren't linear.
