BABY TURTLES BEGIN THEIR DANGEROUS JOURNEY TO THE SEA
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
A rare and intimate wildlife moment shows turtles laying their eggs as hatchlings emerge from the sand and begin their instinctive journey toward the ocean.
The footage was filmed by Jasper Wilkins, 32, a conservation-focused digital nomad originally from Birmingham, UK, while in the Galapagos Islands.
The video documents several stages of the process, from adult turtles nesting on the beach to baby turtles scrambling across the sand.
The journey from nest to ocean is one of the most dangerous moments of their lives, with only a small number surviving to adulthood.
Sea turtles return to shore after long ocean migrations to lay their eggs, often choosing the same beaches generation after generation.
Jasper Wilkins said:“I’m always looking for interesting stories about wildlife, so I quickly filmed this. Usually, it can be hard to see moments like this.
“The oceans are vital because they produce over half the oxygen we breathe and regulate the climate.
“Humans take trillions of marine animals each year, and hardly anybody cares about them.
“If you love the ocean, help raise awareness about how people can protect it.
"Commercial fishing is very bad for marine life, so becoming plant-based is one of the simplest ways individuals can help."
ENDS
