GRAY WHALE MUM AND CALF SPOTTED ON EPIC MIGRATION<br />WITH PIX AND VID<br />By Shuk Yee Tsang<br />Drone footage has captured a rare and tender moment as a gray whale mother swims alongside her newborn calf during their annual migration.<br />The footage was filmed near Newport Beach by Newport Landing Whale Watching group, as the gray whale migration season officially got underway in the coast of California, USA.<br />Jessica Rodriguez from Newport Landing Whale Watching shares each year, gray whales travel thousands of miles from their feeding grounds in Alaska to the warmer calving lagoons of Baja Mexico. <br />This period marks the time when many females give birth while still on the journey south.<br />Newborn gray whale calves are typically 12 to 15 feet long at birth and weigh around 2,400 pounds, gaining as much as 30 pounds a day during their first year as they remain close to their mothers.<br />The footage offers a striking aerial view of the bond between mother and calf, highlighting one of the ocean’s most remarkable natural journeys.<br />Jessica Rodriguez said: “Our gray whale migration has finally started in Newport Beach. <br />"This drone video shows a gray whale mom and her newborn calf as they make their way along our coast.<br />"This is the time of year when mothers give birth on the migration route as they head toward the warm, protected calving lagoons in Baja Mexico.”<br />ENDS
