THE COOLEST CAR DESIGN EVER 1972 #CAR #1972 CAR

2026-01-16 3 Dailymotion

Picture this wild little van rolling out of California in 1972, like a fiberglass spaceship that crash-landed in a Volkswagen Beetle scrapyard. The Brubaker Box was Curtis Brubaker’s mad idea to blend dune buggy cool with a lounge on wheels, all on a Beetle chassis with parts borrowed from random cars. It had just one sliding door and a funky interior with sofa-style seating that made you feel like you were in a living room on wheels rather than a car.

VW didn’t want to play ball, so instead of buying cheap rolling chassis Brubaker bought full Beetles, cut them apart, and built Box bodies around them. That might sound clever, but it was a money pit, and by the time the dust settled only a handful were ever finished before the company went bankrupt.

Today these kooky Cubes are automotive cult relics, so rare they stop crowds at shows and sell for eye-watering amounts at auction.
