A police officer was mauled to death after a tiger attack while riding his motorcycle in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley late on 2 February.<br /><br />The victim was identified as Head Constable Chikseng Manpang, a resident of Manfaiseng village, who was posted at Roing Police Station.<br /><br />As per The Assam Tribune, a truck driver told authorities he saw a large animal dragging the rider off the road, alerting police and forest officials of the attack.<br /><br />Officials first found his abandoned motorcycle by the roadside, prompting a search operation. His mutilated body was recovered the next morning from a deep gorge in the forested area.<br /><br />Following the tragedy, the Arunachal Pradesh government announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 10 lakh for his family.<br /><br />As per the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Department, the state has 13 wildlife sanctuaries and three tiger reserves. According to the 2022 national tiger census, Arunachal Pradesh has a total of nine tigers in the three reserves.
