“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” is now available on Paramount+, and one of the new characters introduced on the show is Gina Yashere's Lieutenant Commander Lura Thok. Thok initially raised eyebrows among Trekkies when it was revealed she was a female Jem'Hadar/Klingon hybrid, but she's quickly become a fan favorite.<br /><br />Now, her energy in the show makes more sense, as she drew this comparison to “Full Metal Jacket." She went on to say that she took a franchise deep dive, specifically mentioning “Deep Space Nine,” so her inspirations are also local.
