High-Speed Crash on Lucknow–Kanpur Highway; Class 12 Student Arrested

Lucknow: A six-year-old boy was killed and four others injured after a speeding car allegedly driven by a Class 12 student ran over pedestrians and hit multiple vehicles on the Lucknow–Kanpur Highway on Thursday evening.<br /><br />The accident took place around 7 pm near Hanuman Temple under the Banthra police station limits, triggering panic in the area. Deputy Commissioner of Police Nipun Agarwal said Dikshant Patel (6) died during treatment, while four others sustained injuries. The accused, a resident of Bakshi Ka Talab, has been arrested and the car seized.<br /><br />According to police, the student was returning from a farewell party and was accompanied by a girl. Nearly 35 km from Lucknow city, the car first collided with a tempo. It then went out of control, hit pedestrians on the roadside, struck a motorcycle and crashed into a tempo and an auto-rickshaw. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the sequence of collisions. The front portion of the vehicle was badly damaged.<br /><br />The injured include Sadhana Patel (35), her mother Meena Devi (60), and her son Dikshant from Unnao. Dikshant was first taken to a private hospital and later referred to the Sarojini Nagar Community Health Centre, where he succumbed. E-rickshaw driver Awadh Bihari (42) and a 12-year-old boy were also injured and are under treatment.<br /><br />Eyewitnesses said locals tried to catch the driver, but he allegedly sped away, causing further injuries. The girl accompanying him was stopped by the crowd and handed over to police. Based on her statement, the accused was traced and arrested.<br /><br />A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
