Four persons were killed and one sustained critical injuries after a trailer rammed into a Scorpio SUV on the Raipur–Ratanpur Highway near Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, in the early hours of Friday.<br /><br />The accident occurred around 2 am near Sambalpuri village under Sakri police station limits. According to police, the trailer, heading towards Raipur, lost control, crossed the median and entered the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the Scorpio.<br /><br />CCTV footage from a nearby dhaba shows several heavy vehicles parked along the roadside. A pickup truck was stationed on the left lane with hazard lights on. A dumper reportedly moved between the parked pickup and a long trailer. In an attempt to avoid the dumper, the trailer driver swerved, lost control and crashed into the oncoming SUV. Police said the Scorpio driver had less than two seconds to react.<br /><br />The impact was severe. After hitting the Scorpio, the trailer struck another parked trailer and overturned. The SUV was completely mangled, trapping all five occupants. Rescue teams used a gas cutter in a two-hour operation to extricate the victims.<br /><br />The deceased were identified as Chhatrapal Ratre (37), Vishal Lahre (25), Anmol Lahre (14) and Sonu Miri (28). The injured, Prakash Ratre, is undergoing treatment at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences. The victims were returning home after attending a 25th wedding anniversary celebration at a nearby dhaba.<br /><br />The trailer driver has been arrested and a case registered.
