Businesses that rely on Tasmania’s Liberty Bell Bay smelter owned by Sanjeev Gupta’s GFG Alliance hope a new owner can be found quickly. It continues a period of turmoil for the company, which last year saw the South Australian government, force the Whyalla Steelworks into administration over a failure to pay its bills. The Tasmanian manganese smelter was put into administration yesterday with the future of more than 200 direct jobs and a large local supply chain at stake.
