A road accident involving a school vehicle and a private bus left 22 people injured, including 14 students, near Adigas Hotel on Somanahalli–Kesturu Cross Road in Mandya on Friday evening.<br /><br />According to officials, the injured students belong to Dr. Shantha H.K. Mariyappa Educational Institution in Maddur. The collision occurred when a private Udayaranga bus reportedly rammed into the school vehicle as students were returning to their villages after school hours.<br /><br />Among the injured are Sushilamma, Gouramma, Shivaram, Shobha and Shivamallu, who were travelling in the private bus. All injured were shifted to a taluk hospital for treatment, while six persons, including two students, were referred to Mandya MIMS Hospital for further care.<br /><br />The students, hailing from Kadalipur, Hulaganahalli and Hemmanahalli villages, were on their way home when the accident took place. Following the incident, anxious parents rushed to the hospital to check on their children.<br /><br />Several officials, including former minister D. C. Thammanna, the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and other district authorities visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured.<br /><br />A case has been registered at Maddur Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway.<br /><br />In a separate incident raising fresh safety concerns, a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus travelling from Bengaluru to Shivamogga caught fire late Thursday night near Lulu Mall. The driver noticed flames from the lower section of the bus and immediately evacuated all passengers.<br /><br />The fire quickly engulfed the vehicle, which was completely gutted before fire personnel brought the blaze under control.
