Brazil: Country marks massive literacy milestone as thousands graduate in Recife ceremony

2026-03-29 6 Dailymotion

Thousands of adult rural workers across Brazil received their literacy certificates during one of the largest graduation ceremonies ever held in the country, organized in Recife on March 28th. This milestone was achieved through a strategic partnership between the Brazilian federal government, social movements such as the Landless Workers Movement (MST), and the government of Cuba. The initiative utilized the "Yes, I Can" methodology, a Cuban educational model developed in the 1960s that has benefited over 11 million people in 30 countries. Although the program was initially rejected by the Education Ministry in 2004 after an invitation from Fidel Castro, the MST successfully implemented it independently until the Lula administration eventually integrated the methodology into the national journey to literacy program.

These and more stories now!

🌐Join teleSUR's community and be part of a space where your ideas matter.
https://chat.whatsapp.com/KLABTE41aSj3ioYabXQQ6K
🗣 Don't be left behind, join teleSUR's Channel
https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va98Z437Noa2tjytCt1N
Web💬 https://www.telesurenglish.net/
X🧶 https://twitter.com/telesurenglish
Instagram 📸 https://www.instagram.com/telesurenglish/?hl=es
Facebook 📱 https://www.facebook.com/teleSUREnglishOfficial
YouTube ⏯ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmuTmpLY35O3csvhyA6vrkg
TikTok👌🏼 https://www.tiktok.com/@telesurenglish?_t=8hMLCY0a6z7&_r=1
