A future easter egg to 2004 independent comedy Napoleon Dynamite may appear in 1983 techno thriller Wargames. Matthew Broderick plays a high school student who has a computer & modem at home (unusual for the time period). While dialing up a remote system he inadvertently patches in to the government's new artificial intelligence mainframe, entrusted with managing the country's military weaponry. The machine invites the young hacker to play one of several games. After choosing "Global Thermonuclear War" the system proceeds to run a simulation that brings the world to the brink of armageddon.

At 18 minutes into Wargames you can see the easter egg. David makes fun of his teacher and is sent to the Principal's office. There in the waiting room, a bulletin board hangs on the wall with what appears to be a sketch of actor Jon Heder, star of Napoleon Dynamite. I also thought the unique style of the glass on the window of the principal's door a possible clue involving light. The independently produced Napoleon Dynamite was touted as a great box office success for the spinoff distributor at the time.

Additionally, actor Barry Corbin plays General Jack Beringer in Wargames and acted with Heder in 2021 comedy Funny Thing About Love.
