The film was intended to encourage Britons to think about Air Raid Precautions, a huge concern for most Britons in the late 1930s. What is most chilling is the sequence showing the aftermath of a gas attack. This was a legitimate fear for people living during this time. Only a year later, in 1940, the fear of air raids became a reality.Thankfully poisonous gas was never used on the British civilian population, but 43,000 people would die as a result of conventional weapon attacks and 2 million homes would be damaged or destroyed.
