ENDANGERED AFRICAN PENGUIN RESCUED AFTER BEACH STRANDING<br />WITH VID<br />BY JAIANSH SHARMA<br />Check out the dramatic rescue of a critically endangered African penguin found stranded and exhausted on a South African beach.<br />Dr Catherine Hauw, wildlife veterinarian from Brenton-on-Sea, South Africa, captured the urgent moment after the vulnerable bird was discovered along the shoreline.<br />The footage shows the young penguin appearing weak and lethargic, prompting immediate action after a member of the public raised the alarm.<br />With fewer than 10,000 breeding pairs remaining in the wild, African penguins are under severe threat from disease, pollution, and predation.<br />The bird was carefully wrapped and transported to a specialist veterinary clinic for urgent care and stabilization.<br />Upon examination, vets discovered a fishing hook lodged deep inside the penguin’s stomach a life-threatening injury likely caused by ingesting contaminated prey.<br />After a delicate procedure to remove the hook and provide fluids, the penguin began showing promising signs of recovery.<br />The rescue highlights both the dangers marine pollution poses to wildlife and the vital role of quick intervention in saving endangered species.<br />Catherine said: “Thanks to a member of the public who alerted us, we were able to intervene and rush the penguin for treatment.”<br />Viewers praised the rescue efforts in the comments.<br />One wrote: “Anyone who rescues and/or saves penguins deserves a medal.”<br />Another added: “Baby you are the best you saved a precious life.”<br />ENDS
